Tevez Announces Retirement From Football

Former Argentina striker Carlos Tevez has officially announced his retirement from football at the age of 38.

Tevez has been without a club since leaving boyhood side Boca Juniors in the summer of 2021.

Tevez has cited a loss of appetite for the game ever since he lost his father last year as reason for his decision despite offers from several clubs to prolong his career.

He bows out with a record of 308 goals in 746 club games, having also turned out for the likes of Brazilian side Corinthians, West Ham United, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Shanghai Shenhua.

"I'm enjoying my life, my family, my own things," Tevez told America TV. "I played for a long time. I wasted a lot of time.

"They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that's it, I have given everything.

"Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan."

"I woke up one day and said 'I'm not playing any more', I called my agent and told him."

"I'm going to be a coach, I've made the decision that I'm going to coach," Tevez added.

"I'm working with [Carlos] Chapa Retegui, I have a project that I've been working on with my brothers for several months.

"I'm very enthusiastic, I'm really hooked."

Tevez won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United before making a controversial switch to Manchester City, where he won another top flight title.

A move to Juventus in Italy brought two Serie A titles for Tevez.

Tevez won 76 caps for Argentina, scoring 13 goals and played at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
