Lampard Fined £30,000 By FA For Merseyside Derby Penalty Comments

Everton manager Frank Lampard has been fined £30,000 by the Football Association for comments he made after a Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool back in April.

The former Chelsea manager was charged for bringing the game into disrepute by questioning the referees' integrity.

Everton lost the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi.

After the game, Lampard was adamant Everton should have been awarded a penalty when the scoreline was still goalless after Anthony Gordon and Joel Matip tangled in the penalty box.

Lampard opined that had it been the other way round, Liverpool would have been awarded a penalty.

Lampard said: "It is a penalty in the second half. I don’t think you get them here. I think probably if that is Mo Salah at the other end, you get a penalty. And I'm not trying to create conflict there, I think it is just the reality of football sometimes."

A tweet from the FA Spokesperson account read: "An independent regulatory commission has fined Frank Lampard £30,000 after finding a charge against him for breaching FA Rule E3 in relation to media comments proven during a personal hearing.

"The Everton FC manager made the comments after their Premier League game against Liverpool FC on Sunday 24 April 2022, and he denied that they constitute improper conduct as they imply bias and/or attack the integrity of the match referee – or referees generally – and/or bringing the game into disrepute contrary to FA Rule E3.1."

Everton secured their Premier League safety in their penultimate game of the season; a 3-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
