Henderson Begs Gerrard For Final Day Favour At Man City

Jordan Henderson is begging Steven Gerrard and his Aston Villa side to do Liverpool a favour on the final day of the Premier League season this weekend.

Liverpool moved to within a point of leaders Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at Southampton on Tuesday.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard and his Villa side will travel to the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the season while Jurgen Klopp's side will be at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool will be hoping Aston Villa take points off Man City and avoid a repeat of the 2018/2019 title race where Pep Guardiola's side won by a single point.

Henderson told Sky Sports: "It's hard. We've had this before when they played Brighton [and went 1-0 down] and the crowd cheer and you know what's going on and it's hard to focus on the game.

"Hopefully that experience, we've learned from it and we can just concentrate on the game and what we need to do.

"Hopefully, Stevie and Villa can do us a favour at City. I might give him a call now, actually!"

A much-changed Liverpool side had to come from behind to win at the Saint Mary's stadium, with Takumi Minamino cancelling out Nathan Redmond's opener before Joel Matip headed in the winner in the second half.

Henderson was pleased with how Liverpool's second string side responded to the early setback.

"I feel like we've done that really well all season," Henderson added.

"The lads who might not have played as much as they would have liked, they've got to come in and show what they're all about.

"I felt as though all the lads did that tonight, took the opportunity, and in a Premier League season you need absolutely everyone."
