Drogba, Agüero Among Six New Inductees Into Premier League Hall Of Fame

Six new players have been inducted into the 2022 Premier League Hall of Fame.

Wayne Rooney and Patrick Vieira were the first two former players to be inducted this year but they have now been joined by Didier Drogba, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Sergio Agüero, Ian Wright and Vincent Kompany.

Scholes spent his entire career with Manchester United and won 11 Premier League titles.

"It's a special feeling to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame along with so many fantastic players who have already been voted in and with the players who are being named today," Scholes said.

"I played for the best manager for 20 years at Manchester United; the biggest club in the world with the greatest fans. I feel lucky and privileged I was part of a team that won so many trophies and to have won the Premier League 11 times."

Agüero is the highest scoring overseas player in Premier League history with 184 goals in 275 games. He won five titles with Manchester City in ten years at the club.

Drogba won four titles in two spells at Chelsea, scoring 104 goals in 254 games and winning the golden boot twice.

"It is a real honour for me to have been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame," Drogba said. "My years with Chelsea were so special to me, and I'm incredibly proud of everything we won as a team."

Schmeichel is the first goalkeeper to be inducted, having won five titles with Manchester United.

Kompany captained Manchester City to four title triumphs while former Arsenal and Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright scored 113 goals in 213 appearances in the top flight.

Eight former players were inducted into the 2021 Hall of Fame.

Only players who have retired from professional football are available for selection and selection is based solely on their performance in the Premier League.

Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Steven Gerrard and David Beckham were the 2021 inductees.
