Sneijder retired from football in 2019 at the age of 35 after a short stint with Al-Gharafa in Qatar.
He returned to the pitch this week in a charity game aimed at rasing funds for the victims of the Russia-Ukraine war but his appearance has left much to be desired.
Sneijder looks to have put on more weight than desired, leaving football fans stunned by his appearance after just three years out of the game.
Sneijder was a huge favourite to win the Ballon D'or in 2010 after helping Netherlands reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, losing to Spain, and winning a famous treble of UEFA Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia with Inter Milan but the award went to Lionel Messi instead.
The 37-year-old also played for Ajax, Amsterdam, Galatasaray and OGC Nice in France during a storied career.
One fan commented on Sneijder’s appearance on Twitter: “Pardon? He wasted no time.”
Another tweeted: “Wait, that’s Wesley Sneijder????” And a third added: “The same thing happened with Nasri.”
Others came to the defence of the former attacking midfielder, with one fan in particular saying: “I don't understand the comments about his physique, he has devoted his whole life to top-level sport with a very strict lifestyle.
“He has been retired for almost 3 years, he is enjoying life, he owes nothing to anyone and especially not to you!”
