De Gea made more saves (22) than any other goalkeeper in the first month of the year and kept one clean sheet.
The 31-year-old topped a six-man shortlist that included James Ward-Prowse, Jack Harrison, Kevin De Bruyne, Jarrod Bowen and Joao Moutinho.
This marks the first time De Gea has won the player of the month award since moving to England in the summer of 2011.
He also becomes the first goalkeeper to pick up the award since Southampton’s Fraser Forster in February 2016.
De Gea has been an ever-present in the Manchester United side this season, starting all their 22 Premier League games to help them rise to fourth on the table.
Elsewhere, Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage beat Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Dean Smith to claim manager of the month.
Manchester City pair Guardiola and Raheem Sterling won the respective awards in December.
