Eddie Howe Tests Positive For Coronavirus

New Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has tested positive for Coronavirus.

The 43-year-old was supposed to take charge of the Magpies for the first time against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday but will instead head into a period of self-isolation for the next 10 days.

Howe’s assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will oversee affairs from the dugout when the Bees travel to Saint James’ Park.

The former Bournemouth manager will also miss Newcastle’s trip to Arsenal next weekend.

Howe was appointed Newcastle manager on November 8 to replace Steve Bruce, who was sacked after Saudi-Arabia’s Public Investment Fund consortium completed a £305m takeover of the club last month.

Howe told the club's official site: "I’m very disappointed that I won’t be there with you all at St. James’ Park tomorrow, but it is incredibly important that I follow the guidelines and self-isolate.

"I’d like to reassure everyone that I feel fine, and while this is unwelcome news for me, I know it hasn’t derailed our preparations for what is an important game.

"I have been, and will be, in constant communication with my coaching team and the players, both tomorrow and during the week, and I know they will be giving everything on and off the pitch."

Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League and are still searching for their first win of the season.
