England brushed aside Albania 5-0 to move within a point of securing a place in Qatar thanks to a first half hattrick from Harry Kane and a Jordan Henderson effort after Maguire had given the Three Lions the lead.
Maguire has come in for criticism in recent weeks for his performances for Manchester United, having been at fault for goals conceded in defeats to Leicester City and Manchester City.
The 28-year-old celebrated his goal by cupping his ears while performing a knee slide in an apparent message to his critics but Keane insists getting on the scoresheet does not mask Maguire’s poor performances.
Speaking on ITV Sport at half-time, ex-United star Keane said: "He thinks he's shutting the critics up. But I think It's embarrassing.
“He's been a disgrace the last couple months for Man Utd. He thinks if he scores there, he's going to shut his critics up. Embarrassing."
Maguire however defended his celebration, telling Sky Sports after the game: "The celebration was a knee slide, it just came naturally to me."
"It's an amazing feeling to score for my country. It wasn't directed at anyone, it just came naturally to do that and open the scoring for England and get the important three points."
