EPL ROUND-UP: Crystal Palace Stun Man City, Chelsea Thump Newcastle United

Chelsea stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to three points on Saturday as rivals Liverpool and Manchester City dropped points.

The Blues were made to work hard against a winless Newcastle United side but two smashing finishes from Reece James and a Jorginho penalty all in the second half saw Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge with the three points.

At Anfield, Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion. Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane established a two-goal lead for the Reds but Zambian international Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard pulled parity for the visitors.

Manchester City lost in the league for the first time since the opening day of the season, going down 2-0 at home to a Crystal Palace side managed by their former player Patrick Vieira. Aymeric Laporte was sent off in the first half with Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher getting on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Southampton came away with all three points at Watford thanks to Che Adams’ goal and Burnley finally recorded their first win of the season with a 3-1 home win over Brentford.

In the early kickoff, Arsenal’s fast start was the catalyst for a 2-0 win at Leicester City after goals from Gabriel Magalhaes and Emile Smith Rowe in the opening 20 minutes.

And Manchester United recovered from last weekend’s thrashing by Liverpool to beat Tottenham Hotspurs 3-0. Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford scored the goals to ease the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
