O’Hara has compared his rapid decline from the apotheosis of his career to the current state of Alli at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Alli is now a shadow of his former self as he is finding it hard to enhance his reputation in North London.
The Englishman was on the fringes during the tenure of Jose Mourinho and has found himself sidelined by another head coach.
He has made just six appearances in the Premier League so far this season with the last one coming in Spurs’ defeat against Arsenal on September 26.
O’Hara, who claims he went through similar tribulation during his time at Tottenham, has advised Alli to put his head down and start working hard.
“I’m not Dele Alli, I’m not in his head, I can only go off the experiences I had when the chips were down and weren’t going well,” O’Hara told the Sports Bar.
“The biggest problem I had as a player was I got comfortable with my surroundings, basically I got rich, going to nice restaurants and went on nice holidays.
“I took my eye off the prize, of what got me to the top, and that was hard work, dedication, putting the miles in, putting the effort in, being the first one in training and being the last one out. That’s what made me a football player.
“Dele Alli used to have that. I don’t think, looking at his lifestyle right now, he has that any more. That is what has happened and everyone has caught up.”
