Aguero used to wear number 10 shirt at his previous club Manchester City but did not don the same number at Camp Nou.
The former Atletico Madrid forward stressed that some senior players at Barca wanted him to inherite the jersey from his fellow countryman Lionel Messi who left the side to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Giving detailed account on why he decided to wear number 19 instead of the number 10 shirt that was left vacant by Messi, the 33-year-old said;
“Leo had number 10, and when Piqué and some people from the club told me about the number 10, I had already asked for number 19. Besides, number 10 looks pretty good on Ansu Fati. He returned with enthusiasm, he is young and we should be thankful we have such a talent in our ranks."
Aguero also added he's ready to help Ansu Fati who's in his best form to develop as he heaped praises on the 18-year-old forward.
“You have to help him to continue growing because today it is very difficult to stay at the highest level. We veterans are here to support him. You can tell that he has a talent, the kind that does not come out often. and you have to take advantage of it,” he said.
Aguero joined Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer but made his debut in a 3-1 win over Valencia on Sunday having returned from injury.
