Solskjaer says the season is very long and managing his players’ fitness is very important at the moment.
The Norwegian tactician benched Cristiano Ronaldo against the Toffees and the gamble appeared to have paid off on the 43rd minute mark when Anthony Martial broke the deadlock with his first Premier League goal since February.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner made a cameo on 58 minutes but the visitors pulled parity midway through the second half thanks to Andros Townsend.
Manchester United have won two and drawn one in their last six games in all competitions.
The former Molde FK and Cardiff City head coach, who was speaking to the media after the game, defended his team selection.
"No. You make decisions throughout a long, long season; you have to manage the players' workload and the decision for me was the correct one. Anthony Martial did well, scored a good goal. Edinson needed minutes and could have had a goal. We have to make those decisions at the time,” Solskjaer said.
Solskjaer also reflected on his side’s game against Rafael Benitez’s men, insisting that his side lacked creativity in front of goal.
"We got hit on one break that cost us and we lacked that cutting edge to get the important second goal. We made a couple of decisions that cost us,” he added.
“We had players behind the ball when the ball was delivered and we should have dealt with it. We need to work on it because we are facing more and more opponents who allow us to have possession.
