Solskjaer Blames Klopp For Man United’s Lack Of Penalties

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes comments from Jurgen Klopp in the past regarding the number of penalties Manchester United are awarded are responsible for the Red Devils not receiving any in the current campaign.

Manchester United were denied what Solskjaer referred to as “two stonewall penalties” against West Ham United last weekend and the Norwegian again wanted another spot kick when the two sides met in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

In January this year Liverpool manager Klopp questioned why Manchester United were being awarded more spot kicks compared to his side.

Speaking at the time, Klopp said: "I hear now that Manchester United had more penalties in two years than I had in five-and-a-half years.

"I've no idea if that's my fault, or how that can happen. But it's no excuse for the performance. We cannot change it, we have to respect the decisions."

Solskjaer believes his side have been awarded less penalties since those comments were made.

"We just have to hope that we get what we deserve. We should have had three pens in the last two games," Solskjaer said ahead of Manchester United’s home game against Aston Villa on Saturday.

"There was a certain manager last year who was starting to worry about us getting penalties and after that it seems like the decisions are more difficult to give.

"Surely I’ve seen a big, big difference since then on. We just have to leave it up to the refs and hopefully they’ll make the right calls very soon."

Liverpool have been awarded one penalty in the league this season while Man United are yet to be given one.
