Rudiger Labeled As The Best Defender In The Premier League

Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has showered praise on Antonio Rudiger, insisting that the Chelsea star is arguably the best defender in the Premier League.

Rudiger was on the fringes during Frank Lampard’s last days as the head coach of Chelsea but has found a new life since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel.

The Germany international has established himself as a key member of the Chelsea defence, which seems impregnable at the moment.

Chelsea are yet to concede an open play goal in the Premier League this season despite facing the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur on the road.

Ferdinand, who acknowledged Manchester City’s Ruben Dias when asked about who the best defender is, believes Rudiger is the best man in the business in England.

“Since Tuchel has come, I think he’s arguably been the best center-back,” said Ferdinand on his YouTube channel. “I think him and Dias would have been close, but the effect he has had on his team has been immense.

“Under Frank [Lampard], it was evident he wasn’t Frank’s cup of tea. He didn’t really like him. There were rumors there were trying to put him in the market to be sold. In Germany, he’s always been highly thought of. But when the manager doesn’t rate you and you can feel that, I don’t care who you are, your confidence takes a beating and it’s hard to perform at that level.”
