The former Chelsea trainer insists he left the club because there was no ‘harmony’ between him and the club' and thought ‘It was right to part ways’.
Having joined Napoli in 2018, Ancelotti left the club in December 2019, spending one and a half season with the Partenopei.
Ancelotti went on to join Premeir League club Everton where he also left to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.
Talking to RadioRai on his spell with Napoli and why he departed, the 62-year-old revealed it was right for him to quit his job after realising the relationship between him and the club wasn't perfect.
“Two splendid professional years,” Ancelotti said. “But I know very well how it works and I think it ended in the right way. “When there’s no harmony between the club and the coach, it’s right to part ways.”
Ancelotti in his first season at Napoli turned the team into a formidable side as they finished second in the Serie A and also guided them to a Champions League knockedout stage before departing the following year.
Following Ancelotti's departure, Napoli replaced him with former Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso before Luciano Spalleti succeeded him after just one and half year.
Despite not being at post at Napoli, Ancelotti believes the side are capable of competing in the Italian Serie A this season.
“Napoli are competitive. I’m not sure if they can win, but they can definitely compete.”
