Nuno Says Spurs Have A Lot Of Things To Improve On After Chelsea Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 3-0 at home by Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted his side needs to improve.

Nuno says he is disappointed with the result at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the champions of Europe.

It was a game of two halves as the Blues improved on their first half performance to inflict Tottenham’s second defeat of the Premier League season. The hosts started on a front foot but could not make it count before it ended goalless at halftime.

Chelsea broke the deadlock when Brazil defender Thiago Silva rose highest to head home a corner from Marcos Alonso.

N’golo Kante, who came on to replace Mason Mount after the interval, doubled Chelsea’s advantage after his weak shot took a ricochet off a Tottenham defender before going past Hugo Lloris on 57 minutes.

Antonio Rudiger scored in the dying embers to put the cherry on top of the sundae for Thomas Tuchel’s men.

"I'm disappointed. The first half was very good. It was a game of two halves clearly. I think in the first half we competed very well, were the better team and controlled things,” Nuno said after the game

"For 50 minutes we held on before the first goal but after that the game changed. It was very hard for us. Chelsea are a good team and created us many problems.

"I don't know if we surprised them but we needed to start the match really strong and we did that. We did good pressing, recovering the ball and creating good situations. The plan was to score. There were chances to do it, we didn't do it. The first half was fantastic.

"It was a set-piece. The goal was really disappointing. After that, we struggled to regain control of the game. Chelsea are organized, have experience and it was very hard for us.

"Since we started, we have a lot of things to improve on. Even with good results and good performances we are aware we have a lot to improve on and a long way to go. We keep believing. The boys are working hard and we keep pushing.

"The first 45 minutes was huge for us. Now we have to sustain this level over the whole game."
