Pep Guardiola Full Of Praise For Man City After Beating Leipzig

Last season finalists Manchester City opened their 2021/2022 Champions League campaign with an emphatic 6-3 victory over RB Leipzig in Group A on Wednesday night and head coach Pep Guardiola was impressed with his men’s display.

The Citizens saw off a spirited German side, who had nothing to lose, and Guardiola has showered praise on Manchester City’s quality in front of goal.

Guardiola’s men broke the deadlock from an unlikely source Nathan Ake inside the opening 16 minutes and doubled their advantage twelve minutes later with Nordi Mukiele’s own goal.

Christopher Nkunku pulled one back for the visitors three minutes before halftime but Riyad Mahrez restored the hosts’ two-goal cushion right before the interval.

Nkunku once again cut the deficit six minutes after the break but City did not shut up shop as they went for more.

Goals from Jack Grealish, Joao Cancelo, and Gabriel Jesus rendered Nkunku’s hat-trick as a mere consolation.

“They never give up and have a special way to attack, to play,” Guardiola said after the game.

“They play all or nothing and whoever is better and more clinical in the final third wins the game. The quality of our players today was better and that is why we won.

“But you never had the feeling it was over and that is a big compliment to their team. We scored minutes, just a few minutes, after they scored and that helped us a lot.

“They are a fantastic team and I am a big fan of the way they play and to football it brings a good message.”
