Busquets is not ruling out the possibility of the most coveted trophy returning to Camp Nou as he believes everything is possible in football.
The post-Messi era has begun already and Ronald Koeman’s men are yet to taste defeat in their opening three games in La Liga.
The Blaugrana’s big test will be coming up on Tuesday when they begin their Champions League journey with a home game against Bayern Munich.
The La Masia product was asked if Barcelona can go all the way to hoist the trophy in the absence of the Argentina superstar.
Busquets believes Barcelona can do it without Messi, despite admitting losing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner was painful.
“Anything can happen in football,” said Busquets as per Marca, when asked if European glory is possible with no Messi. “Chelsea won the Champions League last season and were not favorites.
“The important thing is the collective level, and we know that we do not have Leo or his individual qualities. We are here, excited and aware of the difficulty, but we have a lot of ambition.”
“It was a shock, for everything that Leo gave to Barca and personally to me,” Busquets admitted on his friend’s summer exit. It was an accumulation of emotions that were difficult to digest, but we have to try to change the story. We are at the beginning of the season and we’ll have to get used to playing without Leo.”
