Pearce says Lingard should make a move elsewhere if he will not be a regular starter under head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After finding opportunities hard to come by due to the increased competition for places in Manchester United, Lingard left the club in January for a loan move to West Ham United in a bid to relaunch his career.
The Englishman successfully redeemed himself at the London Stadium as he helped West Ham United to a sixth place finish on the Premier League table, scoring nine goals and providing five assists.
Lingard, who is in his last year of his Manchester United contract, was tipped to leave Manchester this summer but the move failed to materialize.
Pearce has urged his compatriot to reassess his situation in Manchester in the coming months and take a reasonable decision as he is too good to sit on the bench.
The 59-year-old told the talkSPORT Breakfast: “Players are at liberty to do what they want with their contracts now with Bosman and freedom of contracts.
“He’s [Lingard] missed the opportunity to leave [Man] United in this transfer window.
“He can reassess his situation come January once again and decide whether there’s an opportunity to move clubs, he holds the cards, Jesse.
“The most important thing for him at the moment is his football and he’s playing the odd game for United and also playing extremely well for England and those performances for England might help him get in the United side.
“I think he’s too good a player to be sat on the outside of it not playing and he’s at an age where he needs to be playing.”
