Chelsea Fined £25,000 By FA For Players’ Conduct Against Liverpool

The Football Association(FA) have fined Chelsea £25,000 for their players’ conduct during their Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield on August 28.

The European champions escaped with a point after playing the dying embers of the first half and the entirety of the second half with ten men following Reece James’s dismissal moments before half-time.

Kai Havertz’s opener was cancelled out by Mohamed Salah’s penalty, with the game ending 1-1.

Referee Anthony Taylor penalized James for a handball incident on the goal line following a VAR review just before half time.

Chelsea’s players protested Taylor’s decision but took their remonstrations too far which earned Antonio Rudiger and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy yellow cards. A little fracas also broke out among both sets of players after Salah’s penalty when Mendy kicked the ball into Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

"Chelsea FC has been fined £25,000 for two breaches of FA Rule E20.1 which occurred during their Premier League fixture against Liverpool FC on Saturday 28 August 2021," read an FA statement.

"The club admitted failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during both the 48th minute of the first half and following the half-time whistle."
