Lingard Rejects New Manchester United Deal

Lingard Rejects New Manchester United Deal

England international Jesse Lingard has rejected a new deal presented to him by Manchester United.

Lingard has just a year left on his current contract with Man United and has been offered fresh terms to commit his future to the club.

However, the winger has turned down United's initial approach and wants to be assured of more playing time before making a decision about his future.

Angling for a more first team opportunity, Lingard secured a loan move to London-based club West Ham United in the second half of last season.

After a successful loan stint with West Ham, Lingard registered 9 goals with 4 assists in sixteen Premier League games.

But Lingard is still struggling to break into the first team at Man United and has played just four minutes for the side in the Premier League thus far, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw against Southampton.

His impressive loan stint at West Ham attracted more offers in the summer, as West Ham was eager to make his deal permanent.

Lingard will have to compete for a place in the starting line-up at Old Trafford following the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo from Borussia Dortmund and Juventus respectively.

Shining for England with 2 goals in a World Cup qualifier against Andorra, Lingard will only keep his place in Gary Southgate’s squad if he's playing more at club level.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United have won two games in their first three Premier League fixtures with one draw for the season and are hoping to win the Premier League title for the first time since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Old Trafford side have re-signed their former forward Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, who looks set to make his debut against Newcastle United over the weekend.
