Jean-Pierre Adams Dies After 39 Years In Coma

Former French defender Jean-Pierre Adams has died at age 73 after being in coma for 39 years.

Adams having featured for French sides Nice and Paris Saint-Germain had been in coma since 1982 after a routine knee operation went wrong.

Adams who was born in Dakar, Senegal also represented 22 times for the France national team from 1972 to 1976.

A report by the Blizzard, as per the Guardian, Adams who was taking a coaching course in Dijon became concerned about his knee.

Adams ended his coaching course on the fourth day and headed to the hospital in Lyon for a scan.

In the course of the surgery a cushion used to prop him up mistakenly slipped without the notice of a medical staff when Admas had a problem with supply of anaesthetic.

After the operation, Adams had insisted he's in good shape after the surgery.

"It's all fine, I'm in great shape," Adams reportedly told his wife Bernadette on the morning of the operation.

Adams was then placed in coma for surgery, but he never awoke from it.

The 73-year-old was decleared dead on Monday at the Nimes University Hospital.

Despite playing most of his club career at Nimes, Adams also represented 41 times for French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Following a poor conduct of a surgery, Adams's doctor while he was at PSG, Pierre Huth, led a case against the way in which the operation was handled.

The case dragged on for seven years before the Seventh Chamber of Correctional Tribunal in Lyon eventually charged the doctors guilty of involuntary injury.

Adam's wife in 2017 provided a brief update on her husband as she claimed;

"Jean-Pierre feels, smells, hears, jumps when a dog barks. But he cannot see."
