“I Cannot Praise The Team Enough’ – Claims Tuchel After Chelsea’s Draw At Liverpool

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has insisted he cannot praise his side enough following a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Tuchel believes his men did very well to keep Liverpool at bay for the whole second half despite playing with ten men.

After an end-to-end start to the game in Merseyside, it was the visitors who took the lead on 22 minutes thanks to a header from Germany international Kai Havertz.

Chelsea threatened to pull clear after breaking the deadlock but passed up numerous chances to score the second goal.

The hosts got an equalizer through Mohamed Salah from the penalty spot on the cusp of halftime after defender Reece James blocked Sadio Mane’s effort which was going in with his hand.

The England defender was shown a straight red by referee Anthony Taylor and that became the turning point of the game.

Liverpool were in ascendancy until the end of the game but could not break down a well-drilled Chelsea side as both teams settled for a stalemate.

"Fantastic, I saw a strong first half, a strong Liverpool side. We were very, very good, scored the first goal, had a big chance for the second goal with Mason Mount,” Tuchel said.

"But the pressure was high, the quality from Liverpool, the energy was high. At some point you have to suffer, this is what we did and then in the last second we concede a penalty and a red card.

"At half-time we have to substitute [N'golo] Kante due to injury. Suddenly the world is upside down.

"I cannot praise the team enough, I do not know if there is a harder stadium than City and Anfield to go one man down.

"Because of Liverpool's quality and energy, for the first 10 minutes it felt like it was never going to end.

"Then, the next half an hour it was like maybe we will create a chance and score one and make it harder for them.

"For the last five minutes hopefully we survive and take a well-deserved point. Resilience and team-work was absolutely fantastic.
