Benjamin Mendy Remanded On Custody After Rape Charges

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been remanded in custody after appearing in court for rape and assault charges.

Mendy, 27, has been charged with four counts of rape with one sexual assault said to have happened at his home in Cheshire.

The accusations are in connection with alleged attacks on three women, one aged under 18, between October 2020 and August 2021.

Following the serious charges against Mendy, the former Monaco left-back will not be available for selection for Manchester City in the foreseeable future until the charge is complete.

Mendy is expected to appear at the Chester Crwon Court on 10 September after Judge Jack McGarva sent the case to the court.

Manchester City have already released a statement citing they have suspended their French defender from his duties.

"Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.

"This matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete."

Mendy joined Manchester City from Monaco for a reported £52m.

The French left-back was part of the Manchester City's squad that won the Premier League title last season.

Manchester City are hoping to defend the Premier League title will play Arsenal in their third game of the season, having won one and lost one.

Mendy played thirty-one times for The Citizens in the Premier League last term.
