Rodgers Hopes Tielemans Extends His Stay At Leicester City

Leicester City head coach Brendan Rodgers is hopeful Youri Tielemans will sign a new contract at the King Power Stadium.

Rodgers reveals that the club are currently working to agree a new deal with Tielemans’ representatives and hopes there will be a breakthrough.

Tielemans has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League after moving to England from Monaco in 2019.

The 24-year-old scored nine goals and provided six assists in 51 games in all competitions for the Foxes with the most important one coming in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in May. He also capped the 2020/2021 campaign winning the Leicester City Player of the Season.

The Belgium international’s good performances in Leicester has drawn many potential suitors around him.

Liverpool and other Premier League rivals are said to be yearning to secure the services of Tielemans, who is left with just two years on his current deal at the King Power Stadium.

“I hope we can have him for longer. Jon [Rudkin, Leicester's director of football] is meeting with his representatives,” Rodgers said.

“He is a top-class professional, a great guy and someone I love working with. He is very focussed on his football and doesn't get sidetracked at all.

“As I have said before, I will give him everything to help him continuously improve and he will continue to give us everything too.

“For me and Youri, it just continues – our relationship. Hopefully we can resolve something in the future.”
