Jordan says it is time agents stopped getting a ‘free ride’ and has called on football authorities to control what agents take during transfers.
Chelsea were eager to secure the services of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund but the deal could not materialize despite weeks of intense speculations.
The Bundesliga side openly stated that Haaland would be sold if any team is ready to meet their asking price which was said to be around £175 million.
Per the recent reports in the media, the Norwegian’s representatives demanded an £820,000-a-week salary and other figures included a £34million agent’s fee in an overall five-year package worth £275million.
The champions of Europe backed off and eventually ended up re-signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.
The numbers that the Italian agent reportedly demanded has sparked reactions from fans and pundits.
“It’s not something we haven’t seen Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo getting, but where we really want to focus our guns is can we really continue to allow these agents to bilk this kind of money out of football,” Jordan said.
“That’s what we’re talking about. If people are stupid enough to want to pay players a million pounds a week and if they’re stupid enough to want to pay £200million for footballer, then you have to look at that and say ‘eurgh’.
“But then you have to really look at the idea that these agents could take 40 million quid out the game cos I don’t care whether he likes me or I like him or we don’t find a middle ground.
“There has to be some control over what agents are taking out of football and what they have to pay to be in football cos everybody else has to pay to be involved in football one way or the other.
“It doesn’t seem that agents do, they seem to get a free ride.”
