James believes Jurgen Klopp’s side will put the champions of Europe’s character to test when they meet at Anfield.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea have had bright starts to the Premier League season, recording identical wins in their first two games.
The Reds beat Norwich City 3-0 on the opening weekend before recording a 2-0 victory over Burnley last Saturday.
Chelsea on the other hand comfortably battered Crystal Palace 3-0 before beating Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Liverpool and Chelsea have always been tipped as potential title winners every season and their credentials will come to test when they lock horns in the early season clash in Merseyside.
James was speaking to Chelsea’s official website and he has warned the Blues to be wary of Liverpool.
“Liverpool have been up there at the top of the Premier League for the last few seasons so we know going there will be a very tough game,” he said.
“We need to prepare right and bring the same intensity as today into that game but our team is very strong.
“I wouldn’t say there’s any pressure on us right now. We have to take it game by game but obviously our aim is to win every week.
“Everybody here is ambitious and wants to win the title but we just have to take things slowly right now.”
