On Tuesday, the former Real Madrid player posted a tweet featuring a selfie with a caption 'Nunca dejes de creer', which translates as 'never stop believing' in English which also happens to be the same motto as Atletico Madrid.
With his tweet having an emoji with a smiling face and a ‘soon’ emoji caused a stir on social media.
But James Rodriguez has come out to respond to the post made by him on his Twitter handle.
"I only put a personal message, I did not say that I am going to a club or for something.
“It has been the news for a whole day, I am not related to this club, there have been no talks, nothing, but everyone knows.
“Yes I go to a club, I do not say it or give signals, I speak it when it is already a fact because in football anything can happen.
“For the press and all those who put things, you have to get a little better information, I did not want to create controversy.”
Following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti back to Real Madrid, James has heavily been linked with a reunion with his former side.
James was out of Everton's 3-1 victory over Ralph Hasenhuttl's Southampton in the season opener.
Speaking in a post-match presser, new manager Rafael Benitez disclosed the left-footed forward missed the game due to isolation.
