Fabregas says Messi and PSG should not expect an automatic success in Ligue 1 in the 2021/2022 season.
The Parisians have been dominant in France over the years due to their financial power over the rest of their rivals.
Monaco and Lille have been the only teams to deny PSG from winning the league title since the 2012/2013 season.
Les Monégasques won it in the 2016/2017 campaign and Lille defied every odd to snatch it away from Mauricio Pochettino’s men last season.
With the acquisition of Messi and other stars this summer, many have opined that Paris Saint-Germain will comfortably win the league, but the former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea star has warned Monaco’s rivals that winning Ligue 1 will not be a cakewalk.
“When PSG don’t win the league everyone sees it as a disaster because they spend a lot of money,” the AS Monaco midfielder told The Guardian.
“Everyone takes it that this is a one-team league, but in the last five years they’ve won three because Lille and Monaco have also won the title and put the brakes on their winning streak.
“It is a competitive league. It is not as easy as people think. It’s very aggressive, very intensive, very fast with strong players who defend very well.”
Fabregas and Monaco will be traveling to face Lorient in their second league game on Friday night.
