Foden Misses Season Opener With Foot Injury

Foden Misses Season Opener With Foot Injury

England midfielder Phil Foden is expected to be on the sidelines for four weeks following a foot injury he sustained during Euro 2020.

The England international will be out of Manchester City's first three league games with Tottenham, Norwich City and Arsenal.

The left-footed midfielder looks disappointed as he talks of the genesis of his injury.

"It has been really difficult for me personally - I want to get back on the pitch as soon as possible," said Foden.

"Picking up a foot injury just before the final, it was a strange one. I was just training and it happened. I just twisted my foot. It was unfortunate."

The injury means Foden might not be able to feature for England in their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Hungary in September.

However, thinking of being back in "around four weeks", Foden could make first Premier League match of the 2021-22 season on Saturday, 11 September against Leicester City.

Aside Foden missing the start of the season, Pep Guardiola confirmed his side will aslo be without Kevin de Bruyne.

The former Chelsea midfielder injured his ankle during Belgium's Euro 2020 quarter-final loss to Italy.

Having won the Premier League and reaching Champions League final last term, Foden believes achieving same status will be difficult for his side this season.

"Us being Premier League champions, it is going to be even harder to do that this year," he said.

"Every team is going to be trying hard to beat us. We know we have to be at our best every game. That is the standard we set. We want to repeat last season and try to win the league."

Foden scored 9 goals with five assists in twenty-eight Premier League games last season and also made three appearances for England at the Euro 2020.
