Grealish brought his nine-year stay at the Villa Park to an end to sign a six-year contract at the Etihad Stadium in a deal that cost Manchester City £100 million.
The England international’s big move away from Aston Villa last week was swiftly followed by a shocking news from Spain that Lionel Messi will bring his 21-year stay at the Camp Nou to an end.
Messi and Barcelona’s tie came to a sad end as the club have no funds to offer the Argentina international a new deal.
The 34-year-old was reduced to tears during his final press conference scheduled to officially say goodbye to the club and fans on Sunday.
Grealish, who was also speaking to the media during his official presentation as a Manchester City player on Monday, has compared his emotions to that of Messi.
"It was so tough. I think everyone knows that," said Grealish.
"I reported back for the pre-season as I was meant to. That's when the manager wanted me back so I obviously went back for a few days. It was obviously difficult because in the back of my head, I knew that I might be going.
"Everyone's seen the way Messi was at his final press conference and that is the exact way I felt myself.
“Before I left, at the hotel, I spoke to the team, the staff and the players and I teared up a little bit myself."
Grealish could make his Premier League debut for the Citizens when they travel to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
