Arteta Wants Arsenal To Be “Better And More Prepared” For The Upcoming Campaign

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has urged his men to be better and more prepared for the upcoming season following a 1-0 defeat against bitterest rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a preseason game on Sunday.

Arteta says he took away some positives from his side’s defeat but not entirely impressed with their display against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

After a dull first half which ended 0-0, the hosts broke the deadlock eleven minutes before the final whistle through South Korea superstar Son Heung-min.

Arteta, who was speaking after the game, admitted it is not nice losing to Spurs even if it is a friendly game.

“To lose any game… to lose against them obviously even more,” Arteta told the Arsenal media.

“Take the positives and learn and for the next time be more prepared and better.

“We took a lot of good things. We played with a lot of kids as well who did extremely well today, so I think it’s good for the preparation.”

The Gunners had a poor 2020/2021 season where they finished eighth on the Premier League table.

Arsenal start their campaign against newcomers Brentford on Friday and the Spanish tactician has urged his men to begin well.

“Yeah, it’s always great to start [with a positive result],” added the former Everton midfielder.

“It’s a tough place and a team that’s been playing together for a long time and the first game is always tricky and they are a really good opponent.”
