Messi’s 21-year association with Barcelona came to an end on Thursday when it was announced that the Blaugrana’s financial predicaments will make it impossible to retain the six-time Ballon d’or winner.
Messi has been linked with moves to Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City but James prefers a different destination for the 34-year-old.
Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the football landscape for the best part of a decade with eleven Ballon d’or awards between them.
James believes it will be a dream for most football fans to see Messi and Ronaldo play in the same team following the Argentine’s Barcelona exit.
"Messi should go to Juventus and play with Cristiano Ronaldo," James said on a livestream on Twitch ahead of the Toffees' final pre-season test against Manchester United.
"It would be a bomb. It's the dream of many fans to see those two play together.
"Messi managed 30 goals and 30 assists for Barcelona per year at least. Now they will have to look for other players to do that."
James won one La Liga title and two UEFA Champions League trophies while playing alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid.
