Ex-Spurs Defender Dawson Retires From Football

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Michael Dawson has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.

Dawson has brought an end to his career which lasted for two decades and will now take a role up in the media.

The Northallerton-born star started his football career with Nottingham Forest in the beginning of the 21st century before moving to Spurs in January 2005.

Dawson had the best moment in his career at the White Hart Lane as he played over 230 Premier League games for the North Londoners. He later moved to Hull City in the summer of 2014 and left after four years.

The Englishmen returned to his boyhood club in 2018 and it eventually became the swansong of his professional career.

“After 20 incredible seasons, I have decided that now is the time for me to retire from professional football,” Dawson said in a statement on Friday.

“It was an amazing journey and I loved every minute, creating memories that will be with me forever and I feel lucky to have experienced so many unforgettable moments throughout my career.

“Of the tops, of which there are too many to mention them all, I have had the privilege of leading Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Hull City and absolutely loved my time at these big three clubs.”

“To be given the honor of playing for England made a childhood dream come true and I have always been immensely proud to represent my country,” he added.
