Willian Endorses Lampard’s Move To Chelsea

Willian has added to the growing number of calls for Frank Lampard to be installed as Chelsea’s new manager.

Lampard is the firm favorite to take over from Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge after Derby County gave him the chance to speak to his former employers regarding their vacant managerial position.

Willian, who is on Copa America duty with Brazil, played with Lampard in his final season at Chelsea before the latter joined Manchester City, and the Brazilian has endorsed his former teammate to be a success at Stamford Bridge if he is given the reigns.

“He is a legend,” Willian told football.london. “He was an extraordinary player for the club, winning every possible title.

“He deserves so much respect and backing for what he has already achieved at the club. If Chelsea do bring him in, he will be very welcome."

He continued: “Is he definitely going to be the next manager? I don’t know.

"But I think he would be up to the task.

“He was a great player, and he is a great person. He’s only starting his managerial career now, but he has everything it takes to be a success.”

Lampard cut his managerial teeth at Derby County last season and impressed in the role after guiding them to the Championship play-off final, where they missed out on promotion to the Premier League following a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.

Lampard spent 13 years as a player at Chelsea after joining from West Ham United in 2001 for £11m and is the club’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals from 648 appearances.

Lampard won 11 major trophies in his Chelsea career including captaining the side to Champions League and Europa League glories in the absence of John Terry, who missed both finals due to suspension and injury respectively.
