White is one of the most prominent signings in the Premier League this summer, with the Gunners paying a fee in the region of £50 million to secure his services.
After months of speculations and rumours, the transfer for the former Leeds United loanee was made official last Friday.
White was not included in the starting lineup against Thomas Tuchel’s men, but he did come off the bench in the second half replacing defender Rob Holding.
The Englishman showed glimpses of what to expect from him at the Emirates Stadium when he sprinted back and made a sublime goal-saving block to deny Morocco international Hakim Ziyech.
Speaking to the media after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to their London rivals Chelsea, Arteta showered praise on White and revealed the North Londoners had been mulling over signing him for a very long time.
“I’m really pleased,” the Spanish tactician told the media.
“I think the club has shown the ambition and the direction that we want to take.
“It’s a player we’ve been following for years now and we identify him as a great option for us, for our game model, for the balance that we want in the squad in terms of youth and the players who can still develop with us, so great recruitment.”
