Feeling excited about the purchase of Ben White, Arteta described the defender as one of the club’s “top targets”.
Arsenal finally confirmed the arrival of Ben White on Friday after he was speculated of a move to The Emirates, penning a five-year deal for a reported £50 million.
Ben White had a successful spell with Brighton last season as that earned him a call-up in the England squad for Euro 2020, but didn’t make any appearance for Gareth Southgate’s men at the tournament.
Arteta being happy with the presence of Ben White said;
“Ben was a top target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing.
“Ben has been educated with two very good clubs, Brighton and Leeds, in recent seasons.
“He has benefitted well from two very good coaching set-ups and has shown with both Brighton and on loan with Leeds what a strong talent he is.
“Ben is an intelligent defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style fits perfectly with us.
“And of course, he is still young, so his age and profile fits with what we are building here. We are all looking forward to Ben being central to our future long-term plans.”
Set to don the number four shirt at Arsenal, White is expected to make his maiden Premier League appearance for the London-based club when the Gunners take on Brentford in their season opener on 13 August.
Arsenal will not participate in any European competition this time around after finishing 8th in the Premier League last season, but aim to claim an European competition spot going into the new season.
