Messi is currently with no club since his contract with Barcelona ended in June but Pique wants the future of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to be resolved sooner rather than later.
The future of Messi in Catalonia has been uncertain since the beginning of the 2020/2021 season when he threatened to leave the club following the poor end to the 2019-2020 campaign and the board’s decision to sell Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City were said to be the next destination if Messi was to leave his boyhood club.
The Argentina superstar has reportedly decided to stay and is close to agreeing a new deal with the Blaugrana.
"We're waiting for him to sign the renewal and to have him with us," Pique said. "I hope he's convinced."
Barcelona had a disastrous 2020/2021 season when they failed to win La Liga. Pique is hungry for a strong start to the 2021/2022 season.
"I'm going into this season with the same enthusiasm as my first," Pique added.
"We must try to start well. Generally, when we win league titles, it's because we pick up a good rhythm from the start and pull clear, or we build up a lead and maintain it.
"We'll try to do the same and hope that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid don't do what they did last year."
