Depay has lauded the Argentina superstar as the best player in the world and insists every player in the world would like to play with Messi.
The 34-year-old was linked with a move away from Catalonia with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all said to be yearning to secure his services.
Messi is out of contract at the Camp Nou, but recent reports have posited that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is close to agreeing a new deal with a pay cut due to the club’s recent financial struggles.
Depay, who moved to Barcelona on a free transfer following his exit from Lyon at the end of the 2020-21 season, has expressed his desire to play with Messi.
The former Manchester United man told Barca’s media channels: “He’s a legend, best player in the world. You saw what he did in Copa America. I’m very much looking forward to playing with him, his quality is undoubted. I have to just make my runs and I know the ball will come.”
“Because he has too much quality, he can do everything with the ball. I think everybody in the world would like to play with someone like that.”
“I had a tour of the museum and saw all of the Ballon d’Or awards. He probably has another one coming too. It’s going to be a dream for me.”
