Olivier Giroud Says Goodbye To Chelsea

France striker Olivier Giroud has thanked Chelsea following his two-and-a-half year stay at Stamford Bridge after he signed a two-year contract with Serie A side AC Milan.

Giroud says he is ‘starting a new journey with a light and happy heart’ after he completed a move to the Milanese club.

“To all the Blues, to my teammates, to all my coaches, to the whole club, a huge thank you for these special moments,” wrote Giroud after completing his move.

“I’m starting a new journey with a light and happy heart. Our victories in FA Cup, Europa League and Champions league have been magnificent. Love, Oli G.”

The Frenchman joined Chelsea from their direct London rivals Arsenal in January 2018 and went on to become one of the cult heroes in West London.

He helped Chelsea to FA Cup glory in his first four months and was the Blues’ main man in front of goal when they hoisted the Europa League trophy in May 2019.

Giroud was also a catalyst when Thomas Tuchel led the West Londoners to their second Champions League glory in the 2020/2021 season. He scored six goals for Chelsea en route to the final, most notably against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Round of 16 which helped Tuchel’s side to progress to the next round.

The former Montpellier man was used mostly as an understudy striker during his time at Stamford Bridge but he managed to 39 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for Chelsea.
