Calhanoglu Unperturbed By Fans’ Rage Following Inter Milan Switch

Turkey superstar Hakan Calhanoglu has justified his move from AC Milan to their city rivals Inter Milan this summer.

Calhanoglu says he understands why the fans of Rossoneri are angry about his switch to Inter Milan but insists he had to move forward.

The 27-year-old was introduced to Italian football in 2017, when he joined the Milanese side from Bayer Leverkusen.

He spent four years donning the famous red and black jersey as he established himself as one of the best performers in San Siro.

Calhanoglu decided to put an end to his time with AC Milan after a new deal could not be agreed with the club’s board.

Inter Milan confirmed his signing last month and has sparked a lot of talks in Milan but the Turk has revealed why he left AC Milan.

“It’s normal the fans are upset, but I am not the first to do this and I won’t be the last, as many players have gone from Milan to Inter, or vice-versa,” Calhanoglu told DAZN.

“I just wanted to look to my future, with all due respect to Milan. I did a lot for Milan over four years, I respected everyone, but I have a new chapter at Inter and have to look forward now.

“Pioli was the only one who really wanted me at Milan. I spoke to him many times, but he respected my decision and wished me all the best.”

“It did happen very quickly, I received a lot of calls from director Piero Ausilio and coach Simone Inzaghi. If people show they want you in their team, that makes you want to go there.”

Calhanoglu scored 32 goals and provided 48 assists in 172 appearances in all competitions during his time with AC Milan.
