Inter Terminate Joao Mario's Contract By Mutual Consent

Inter have agreed to terminate Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario's contract by mutual consent despite having one-year left on his current contract.

Joao Mario after being part of Portugal's success story at the Euro 2016 joined Inter Milan from Sporting for a reported fee of €40 million.

The 28-year-old struggled to cement a place in the Nerazzurri first team, spending most of his time out on loan.

Before having stints with Russian based club Lokomotiv Moscow and Sporting, Joao Mario had a loan spell with West Ham United in the Premier League in 2018.

After a mutual talks with Inter in terminating his deal, Joao took to his Twitter account to appreciate his former employers.

"Thanks so much Inter. Good luck for the future," Joao Mario posted in a brief message on Twitter.

Joao Mario was an instrumental figure when Sporting brought their 19-year wait for a Portuguese title to an end last season.

Having joined Inter in 2016, Joao made 69 appearances for the Nerazzurri in a five-year spell with the Italian champions.

It is believed that Joao's loan terms with Sporting is currently preventing him to join another Portuguese club.

Reports are that Benfica are willing to pay €7.5 million for the ball-holding midfielder, who is now a free agent.

Inter Milan won their first Serie A title in 11-years under Antonio Conte who departed the club after the success, citing transfer issues as the reason for his exit.

Inter also looking to defend their Serie A title, have brought in Simone Inzaghi from Lazio to replace departed Conte and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu from AC Milan to bolster the midfield department.
