Altobelli says it is ‘joyful’ winning at Wembley against England as he thinks the Three Lions have always been arrogant.
The Italian believes England should not be considered as one of the best national teams emphasizing on their only glory which came in the 1966 World Cup when they hosted.
Roberto Mancini’s men went down in the opening two minutes after Luke Shaw met Kieran Tierney’s cross with a calm finish.
The Azzurri picked themselves up after the break to grab an equalizer through Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, who squeezed the ball in from close range on 67 minutes to take the game into extra time and eventually penalties.
Italy emerged 3-2 winners after the shootout to secure their second European trophy in their history.
In the euphoria of Mancini’s side’s victory, Altobelli, who featured for Italy from 1980 to 1988, scoring 25 goals, condemned England’s behaviour and arrogance.
“It’s joyful winning at Wembley against England,” Altobelli told RAI Sport. “Who always think they are the best, the greatest, the most talented, the most beautiful.
“And yet if you look in their trophy cabinet there’s one rusty cup from 1966! Go look at our trophy cabinet, it’s packed!”
