Kane Urges England To Be Proud After Title Loss

Kane Urges England To Be Proud After Title Loss

England captain Harry Kane has urged his side to be proud after their quest for title victory was shattered by Italy on Sunday at Wembley.

England nearly ended their 55-year wait for a major trophy but were pipped to the Euro 2020 title by Italy in a penalty shootout at their own backyard.

And with the Three Lions showing class at the tournament, Kane believes their performance should be a sign of encouragement ahead of next year’s Word Cup in Qatar.

"You’ve got to hold your heads up high,’ said Kane.

‘We’ve had a fantastic tournament and these things can happen. Penalty shootouts, you go through your process, you put it where you want to put it but anyone can miss a penalty.

"We win together and we lose together. We’ll learn and grow from it, and it will give us even more motivation to do well in the World Cup next year.

"We should be extremely proud as a group of what we’ve achieved. We’re all winners and we want to win so it’s going to hurt for a while and it’ll probably hurt for the rest of our careers but that’s football.

"We progressed well from Russia and now it’s about continuing that. We’ve got a great squad with loads of young players hungry for more football like this so that’s all we can do. Build and learn and hopefully go into next year in a better way."

England under Gary Southgate have though developed despite being unable to win trophies for the as they failed to reach the 2018 World Cup final after beaten by Croatia in the semi-final.

Kane, however struggled to make a statement in the Euro 2020 but did not leave his name away from the goalscorers list with 4 goals and featured in all fixtures for England.

England will now look to do everything they can to win a first major trophy should they register a place in Qatar for 2022 World Cup.

Italy’s Euro 2020 victory records a maiden trophy for The Azzurri since their triumph in 2006 World Cup in Germany and their second European title since 1968.
