“It’s Not Over For Italy Yet” - Mancini Keeps Eyes On The Prize

Italy head coach Roberto Mancini has insisted it is not yet over for his side until they win the Euros after beating Spain 4-2 on penalties at the Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night.

Mancini says his men have not won anything yet despite being in good form and has urged them to stay focused until the business end.

Italy had to dig deep to secure a place in the competition’s showpiece at the expense of the Spaniards.

Alvaro Morata came from bench to cancel out Federico Cheisa’s 60th minute strike to send the game to extra time and eventually penalties.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho stepped up to score the decisive penalty that took Mancini’s men to the final.

Speaking to the media after the game, Mancini admitted Spain ‘caused problems’ with their tactical changes and his men had to dig deep to reach the Euro 2020 Final, but ‘it’s not over.’

“Penalties are cruel. It was a tough team, Spain are a great side who play really well. We didn’t play the way we usually do, but fought hard and knew it’d be like this,” Mancini told RAI Sport.

“They caused us problems with this change, but then we got the right co-ordinates and didn’t risk much. We knew from the start that Spain were the masters of possession, so they’d cause us problems, but we had to adjust and fight hard.

“Football teams attack and defend, they cannot just attack. We both had chances, these are both great teams, all teams defend, not just Italians.”

“The credit goes to the lads, because they believed in all this three years ago, but it’s not over yet. We’ve got to gather our strength, what is left, and prepare for the Final.”
