The Azzurri have reached the showpiece of the Euros after winning 4-2 on penalties at the Wembley Stadium.
After a tense 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of football, both teams’ fate was decided on penalties.
Spain had missed two of their penalties through Dani Olmo and Alvaro Morata and Jorginho stepped up to take what would send Roberto Mancini’s men to the final.
The former Napoli man audaciously tucked away his penalty in his trademark fashion to fire Italy to the final.
Speaking to the media after the game the Brazilian-born Italian said: “When you take the kick, you feel this weight fall off your shoulders! I tried to forget everything around me, focus on what I’d trained to do, took a deep breath and got on with it.”
Jorginho also reflected on the game and insisted his team-mates never gave up.
“It was a struggle against a great team that made us run so hard, we knew we’d have to suffer, but we believed to the end and in my view deserved to win,” he added.
“Italy never give up, we always believe. This is a marvellous squad that deserves all the best, because we suffer together, we play together, laugh together, joke together and like all families can argue together at times, but we always end up there together.”
