Spinazzola was replaced by Emerso Palmieri on the 79th minute in Friday's Euro 2020 quarter-final win over Belgium after sustaining an injury.
Upon several scans at Rome’s Sant’Andrea Hospital, it was revealed he had suffered a “subcutaneous rupture of the left Achilles tendon”.
The AS Roma defender after undergoing a successful surgery wrote on his official Instagram page;
"Operation perfectly successful.
"I want to thank everyone for supporting me. The countdown has started."
Spinazzola's injury would be a huge blow for the Azzurri as he has been one of their key players in the Euro 2020, having played in all their five games thus far, providing a spectacular assist for Federico Chiesa to open the scoring in Italy’s round-of-16 tie against Austria.
The 28-year-old will not be available for selection in Italy's crunchy fixture with Spain in the semi-final at Wembley on Wednesday.
Following Spinazzola's injury, Jose Mourinho, the new Roma boss confirmed his side will be without the player for few months when addressing fans from the club's pre-season preparations.
"We all feel sorry about the loss of Spinazzola for a few months but that is football and we have to be ready to start next week," he said on Instagram.
Italy are now left with Emerson as the only left-back option in the squad as that could see the Chelsea man earning his second Euro 2020 start for Roberto Mancini's side.
Spinazzola, featuring twenty-seven times for Roma with 2 goals in the Serie A last season joined The Yellow and Reds from Juventus in 2019 for €29.5 million, signing a four-year contract with the club.
After a decent run of form in the Euro 2020, Spinazzola has been on the wishlists of several clubs including Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs but Roma under Jose would not sanction a move for the in-form left-back.
