Despite guarding the Gunners to the Europa League final last season, the Spaniard is yet to become fans favourite at the Emirates as majority of the faithful bemoan his tactics and are currently advocating for his sack.
The Gunners sit eighth on the league table with 18 points, recording four wins, six draws and three losses.
Struggling to find feet under the former Paris Saint-Germain manager, the Armenian opted for a loan move to Italian side AS Roma in the summer.
After not being pleased with the tactics deployed by the 48-year-old, Mkhitaryan has for the first time since departing the club, aimed a dig at Emery for issuing poor game strategies at Arsenal.
Stressing more on his discontent, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has revealed the club did not get the best out of him due to the position he was being forced to play by the manager.
“He paid more attention to tactics, so my role changed. I was starting as a winger, but had to build play with the defensive midfielder. It's why I couldn't contribute as many goals or assists,” the Armenia international said.
“I like to play more freely and move wherever there's space, but you have to do the job that the manager asks.”
“I'm 30 years old now and I like to play football, not just sit on the bench and waste my time. “
“Emery and [head of football] Raul Sanllehi assured me I was important Arsenal but I signed for Roma because they believed in me more.”
Donning the number 77 shirt at the Stadio Olympico, Mkhitaryan has featured just four times for the Giallorossi, scoring one goal with one assist as they currently occupy the fifth position in the Serie A table.
