Koke says La Roja must take a lesson from France’s exit at the hands of Switzerland and focus on their upcoming game until the end.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder believes Les Bleus were complacent against Vladimir Pektovic’s men in the Round of 16 stage.
Didier Deschamps side were leading 3-1 before the last ten minutes of the game but allowed the Red Crosses to pull parity and force the game to penalty shootout which they eventually eliminated the world champions.
Koke does not want Luis Enrique’s men to follow the same fate and has given his team-mates a wakeup call.
“More than Euro 2020 being crazy, it is not easy to win games these days, as there are no small teams and any team can beat you. We saw it when France played Switzerland, as France thought that the match was won and [Switzerland] came back,” the 29-year-old told Marca.
“The same thing almost happened to us [against Croatia]. We are very happy. After so much suffering, fighting and good work, we have the reward of reaching the next round.
“Now we have a very important match against Switzerland, and the quarter-final of the European Championship does not come around very often. We are really looking forward to playing the match.”
Spain reached the next round of the competition after beating Croatia 5-3 at the Parken Stadium.
