Tottenham Appoint Nuno Esperito-Santo As New Manager

Tottenham Hotspurs have ended their long search for a new man in the dugouts by appointing Nuno Esperito-Santo as the club’s new manager on a two-year contract.

Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho back in April but efforts of securing a swift replacement proved tedious for the North London club as several targets slipped through the net.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui, Gennaro Gattuso, Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca could not agree deals to join the 2019 Champions League losing finalists.

Esperito Santo was a free agent after agreeing to a mutual termination of his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract at the end of the 2020/2021 season.

The Portuguese, who was Mourinho’s reserve goalkeeper when FC Porto won the Champions League in 2004, has now been tasked with restoring the glory days to Spurs.

The new Spurs manager told the club website: “When you have a squad with quality and talent, we want to make the fans proud and enjoy. It’s an enormous pleasure and honour, there’s joy and I’m happy and looking forward to starting work. We don’t have any days to lose and we must start working immediately as pre-season starts in a few days.”

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy added: “We should like to thank our supporters for all their patience throughout this process.

"I’ve spoken already about the need to revert back to our core DNA of playing attacking, entertaining football and Fabio and I believe Nuno is the man who can take our talented group of players, embrace our young players coming through and build something special.”
